Justice Ronald George was born and raised in Los Angeles County. He graduated from Stanford Law School in 1964 and served as a deputy attorney general of California from 1965 to 1972. Five years later, Governor Jerry Brown appointed Justice George to the Superior Court of Los Angeles County. He was elected to the position in 1978 and served until 1987. In March 1996, Governor Pete Wilson appointed Justice George as the 27th chief justice of the California Supreme Court.
